Rangers appears to have an easy route to maintaining their 10 point lead at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League when they host bottom club Falkirk on Saturday. Rangers enters Saturday's clash with Falkirk with a 4-2-0 record from their last six Scottish Premier League fixtures compared to a Falkirk side that have won just one of their last six fixtures. The league's bottom club will have some confidence after earning a 1-1 draw at Celtic park against one of the Scottish Premier League's two giants. Kickoff between the two is set for 15:00 local time at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow, Scotland. Rangers extended their lead to 10 points at the top of the league table during the midweek with a 2-0 defeat of St. Mirren on the road. Steven Davis got behind the Saints' defence to score the opening goal in just the second minute of the game, putting the visitors ahead 1-0 early. St. Mirren remained determined throughout, pressing for an equaliser but the next goal would double Rangers' lead. Nacho Novo scored in the 86th minute to secure a 2-0 victory for the Gers. Falkirk held Motherwell to a 0-0 draw at home during the midweek. Both sides started out well, but Motherwell midfielder Giles Coke was shown a straight red for a clumsy tackle before halftime, leaving his side to fight the second half down a man. Falkirk were unable to take advantage of the extra man however, remaining bottom of the Scottish Premier League after the draw. Despite having several members of the squad return in recent days, Rangers remain without a few key players thanks to injury. Kenny Miller's status for Saturday's match remains in doubt while DaMarcus Beasley remains sidelined. Kris Boyd also remains out for Rangers as he continues his recovery from a hernia operation. Midfielder Pedro Mendes has left Rangers to join Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon. Madjid Bougherra will also be missing for Rangers as he has yet to return from international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations. Brian McLean and Tam Scobbie will be available for Falkirk though Scobbie is not likely to play. Pedro Pele will miss the trip to Ibrox due to an injury picked up during the midweek draw with Motherwell. With Celtic playing at lunch time, Rangers could enter their match against Falkirk with just a seven point lead at the top of the table. In the event this happens it becomes very important for Rangers to win to re-establish their 10 point lead as Celtic will make up a match during the midweek and with a win could shrink Rangers lead further, down to four points. Falkirk is in danger of falling too far behind Kilmarnock and Hamilton at the bottom of the league table. If they hope to avoid relegation they will need to pick up points.
