Both teams come into the match with poor form in recent fixtures. Wigan's last Premier League match was a 2-1 loss to Everton on the road. It looked as though Wigan would pick up a point until a late goal secured all three points for Everton. West Ham is winless in their last two games, earning a 0-0 draw on the road against Blackburn Rovers in their last match.

Wigan and West Ham both made last minute moves to lighten their squads at the transfer deadline last week. West Ham defender James Collins moved to Aston Villa and signed a four year deal with the Villans. Wigan midfielder Ben Watson joined League Championship side Queens Park Rangers on loan until January.

Both teams need points plain and simple to move up in the table. Separated by just one point in the standings, Wigan and West Ham will both be looking to collect all three points to move as far up in the table as they can. A victory for either side will separate them from the large pack of teams still gathered in the middle of the table.
