Manchester United and Wigan Athletic will both be looking to separate from the pack on Saturday when they square off at DW Stadium at 15:00 local time. Both clubs opened their Barclay’s Premier League season with wins last weekend but stumbled in the midweek, each side losing 1-0.

The Red Devils suffered an epic setback in the midweek as they lost to newly promoted Burnley 1-0. It was Burnley's first home game ever in the Premier League and first in the top flight in over 30 years. An early shocker put Burnley up 1-0, and United struggled the rest of the way, missing a penalty and losing the game. Wigan Athletic was dealt a shock of their own as another promoted club, Wolverhampton, defeated them at home 1-0 in the midweek.

Man U's injury woes continue, despite the return of central defender Nemanja Vidic, as captain Rio Ferdinand will remain out another three to four weeks after suffering a slight tear in his thigh muscle before last weekend's opener. Ferdinand is just another Man Utd star on the bench as keeper Edwin Van Der Saar remains sidelined as well. Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic is dealing with player strife as versatile midfielder Paul Scharner has warned he might seek a transfer if he is not allowed to play his preferred position of central midfielder. Manager Roberto Martinez insists he wants Scharner to stay, but has stated that he will play Scharner where it is best for the team.

Victory on Saturday will be important to both teams. Questions have been swirling around Man U and their ability to replace Ronaldo's contributions to the squad. The loss in the midweek to Burnley did not help assuage those concerns, victory here will be crucial to show that all is well. Wigan too will be keen to bounce back from a poor performance in the midweek and keep themselves near the top of the table.
