Everton FC will travel to the Czech Republic on Thursday evening to play the second leg of their Europa League playoff with SK Sigma Olomouc. Thursday's fixture will take place at the Andruv Stadion in Olomouc, Czech Republic at 18:00 local time. Everton enter the match with a seemingly insurmountable advantage having won 4-0 in last week's first leg match up at Goodison Park in Liverpool, UK.

Neither team will enter the match with much momentum on their side. Sigma Olomouc has been in terrible form domestically. Over the weekend Olomouc fell 2-1 to Pribram in the Czech Liga and sit near the bottom of the table domestically with a 1-2-2 record. Sigma Olomouc is winless in their past four matches with two draws and two defeats. Everton come into the match struggling as well. After finishing fifth in 2008-2009 Everton had high hopes of improving in 2009-2010 but have sputtered out of the gate this season. After a disastrous 6-1 loss to open the season, Everton lost this weekend to newly promoted Burnley 1-0.

As if Everton didn't have enough problems turning in consistent performances on the field, they parted ways with a key player this week. Defender Joleon Lescott left Everton in a 22 million pound transfer to Manchester City. The transfer was full of drama and distractions prior to Lescott's departure, and Lescott even added parting shots for Everton manager David Moyes. The one bright spot in all of this is Everton's standing in the Europa League. Olomouc is not likely going to be able to overturn the 4-0 deficit facing them when Everton arrives Thursday evening.

Everton need to stay alive in the Europa League in order to boost team confidence and morale. Things are disastrous for them domestically and they could use a win right now for the sake of team morale. Sigma Olomouc has a stagnant offense of late and stands little chance of finding enough goals to overturn Everton's lead and advance to the group stages.
