Sheffield United come into Saturday's match after a 1-1 draw at home against Leicester City. Reading hopes to gain some traction at home after a rough week on the road. Last weekend Newcastle United handed Reading a 3-0 defeat and they drew 1-1 midweek at Swansea City. Reading remain winless on the season with two 0-0 draws and the 3-0 loss to Newcastle. Despite the lack of scoring in the league, Reading does know how to find the back of the net as they defeated Burton 5-1 in early Carling Cup action.

Reading defender Chris Armstrong will not be returning to the squad anytime soon as he suffered a setback in recovery from a knee injury. Armstrong, who joined Reading from Sheffield United last season, was progressing through recovery but was experiencing swelling in his knee. The operation took place Thursday in London and was described as a minor operation to clean out his knee. No timetable is yet known for his return to the pitch.

A victory for Sheffield United allows them to keep pace or surpass the cluster of teams atop the table, while Reading need the victory to get some points and provide a confidence boost to a team lacking any league victories.
