England will play host to Slovenia in an International friendly ahead of both teams' upcoming World Cup qualifiers. England will welcome Slovenia to Wembley Stadium on Saturday, September 5th for a friendly between teams headed in opposite directions ahead of the 2010 World Cup. Kick off will be at 17:30 local time in London, UK.
The two sides come into this friendly riding different trends in their recent international match ups. England is riding high with a record of 4-1-1 in their previous six international matchups. The English have scored 18 goals in their previous six games while recording three shutouts. England's most recent matchup was a 2-2 draw against Holland in the Netherlands. Slovenia come into the matchup headed in the opposite direction. The Slovenians have a record of just 1-1-4 in their last six games and have been shut out four times. Slovenia can find the back of the net however with eight goals in their last six, though all eight came in just two games.
England will be without captain John Terry who is expected to miss the friendly with a groin injury. Steven Gerrard is expected to don the captain's armband for the match. England is also going to try a new offensive approach, teaming Jermain Defoe up front with Wayne Rooney as opposed to Emile Heskey.
While the match is just a friendly, both sides will want a win to build momentum ahead of their respective World Cup qualifiers next week. England will be at home against Croatia on September 9th while Slovenia host Poland.
