On August 19 at 20:45 CET defending champion Manchester United is scheduled to travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley in just the second week of the Premier League Season. The previous week, Manchester United squeaked by Birmingham City 1-0 at Old Trafford Stadium in the league opener, while Burnley lost to Stoke City 2-0 at Britannia Stadium to begin their season.

Going into this week’s matchup, Manchester United will be without star defender Rio Ferdinand, who will miss the action due an injured thigh. Despite his absence, Manchester expects to be able to control the game by pressing the Burnley defense. Expect Wayne Rooney to play a huge role again this week, after his game winning shot the week before.

Burnley is set to sign Andre Bikey, a powerful defender, before the matchup with Manchester, in an effort to seal up their defense, which was beaten up in the season opener. If Burnley can pull this deal off, they could make things difficult for the defending champs.

Though it is only the second week of the season, this matchup is important for both squads. Coming of a championship last year, Manchester United must start this season off strong, to gain ground and confidence for later in the year, when they must defend their title. Burnley needs a good outing this week to build their confidence after their defense was destroyed in the season opener. If they fail to defend this week, Burnley could be in trouble early.
